Is a conservatory a worthwhile investment?

This week's question:
We need an extra living room at home and are contemplating a conservatory. It's cheaper than moving house but I'm concerned it won't be a useable room too hot/cold depending on the season. Do other readers use theirs? What will a good one cost? Any other tips?
